Master in Development Studies Program 

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The Department of Development Studies at North East University Bangladesh (NEUB) is dedicated to exploring the challenges and opportunities associated with development, particularly in the context of Bangladesh. The program provides students with a comprehensive framework to understand social transformation and development process, focusing on the dynamic of human and material resource advancement in less development regions.

By integrating insights from diverse disciplines such as political science, economics, sociology, psychology, anthropology, geography, history and statistics, the curriculum fosters a multidisciplinary approach to development. This holistic perspective prepares students to address complex global challenges and contribute meaningfully to sustainable development initiatives at both national and international levels.

Program Highlights

• A one year six months program (44 credits) that focuses on providing students with a solid grounding in the theoretical and empirical aspects of development.
• The curriculum takes a truly interdisciplinary approach to development, addressing issues such as poverty, sustainable development, gender, and governance.

• The curriculum has a significant research focus, which is unique to MDS and includes courses on both theories and quantitative and qualitative research methods. It has a dissertation track where students can get real research experience under the careful supervision of faculty members.
• Graduates of the MDS program have gone on to work in institutions such as the World Bank, the United Nations Development Programme, international non-governmental organizations (NGOs), research, and academia.
• Students will be part of the elite MDS network, which includes important development researchers as faculty members and a significant alumni base, many of whom hold senior positions in national and international institutions.
